Hong Kong - SPICEEEEEEE

Got home early last night and decided to fix myself some dinner. I had some lovely bone filled fatty pieces of pork, the kind Catherine just does not like and some Black Bean and Chilli sauce. So put those together with some tomatoes, mushrooms and rice noodles it can only be good, can't it?

Well I think the missed the emphasis on the Spicy bit with the sauce. Damn it was hot. It was definitely one way to stop me eating too much. I know you don't really need to know this but I haven't been to the toilet yet today and in all honesty I am not really looking forward to it!

After dinner I went out to K1 (quiet bar near home) with a mate from work who is over from London. His nickname just happens to be 'Stella Dave' and our 1 hour 1 beer policy quickly changed into 2 hours and a couple of beers...but it was cool to chill out and have a chat.

Anyway, off to Rat alley tonight for some food (god knows what I might end up eating) as that is one of the last things round here that I haven't done that sounds like it is worth doing.

97 hours to go!

Hong Kong - Solitude

Well last Friday Catherine and the girls flew back to London with a neighbour who had come to visit us. It seemed like a good idea to send them altogether and not have to worry about one of us sitting in business class for the 13 hour flight home.

Once at the airport it no longer seemed like the clever idea. It was so damn hard saying goodbye to them and Nia was asking why I had to stay in Hong Kong on my own and asking if I would be OK. The trip back to the city and home was strange to say the least.

On Saturday I managed to keep my mind off the quietness by going to play golf in China. Considering the weather it was a mad idea. I am sure that the boat was close to being underwater a few times and all of us that went were looking a little green when we berthed in ZhuHai. We got to the Golf Club and it was still pouring down.

However after making the 1 1/2 hour trip we were not going to just not play. We went out for all 18holes. It never stopped raining but the course was in fantastic condition and even with the rain it was a great day. It is amazing how much difference it makes when it is still in the high 20's and rain doesn't make you uncomfortable.

Sunday was the day when all the late nights and the rest of the recent goings on caught up with me. I managed to drag myself out of bed at about 11am and then pretty much spent the day on the sofa doing nothing. Quite a nice feeling considering there are not too many opportunities to do this. I went out in the evening and got some food in, cooked dinner, played some games on my new PSP and went to bed.

Now only 122 hours to go!

Hong Kong - Ocean Park

Another rainy day but that is not going to stop us. We are going to Ocean Park.
We have packed our rain jackets and an umbrella, all of which we will need because there is one almighty rain storm going on outside. We have learnt though, since our first two weeks of constant 24hr rain, the rain now only lasts for half an hour at most and then we have a respite of at least a couple of hours before the next one.

We headed straight for the cable car to take us to the other side of the park so that we could see the seals and dolphins. The map was great and it was a simple walk to the station. Well it would have been if we were not stopped every minute by groups of people tying to touch the girls and take photos of them. It did not take long for both Nik and I to crack. We felt we were the main attraction in a freak show. The Chinese don't seem to have any sense of privacy or our personal safety. The girls were obviously getting upset by the whole thing so we frankly told the people to go away and stop trying to photograph our children. We realise we look different to the norm but pushing and barging is a little step up from the usual staring, which is pretty annoying too.

Thank goodness a cable car to ourselves and off we go. The view was beautiful.

Another quick check of the map and it is off to see the seals.

The girls loved this esp. When the seals jumped up and splashed everyone. Nia in particular liked the white one. Rhiannon was mesmerised by them all.Next stop was the Dolphin show. It was great. I think the guys that work with these animals have one of the best jobs out.

We were not interested in the rollercoaster rides so we headed back to the lowland via cable car for some lunch. We found some roast chicken legs and Nik wanted deep fried squid. I had to laugh at Nik's face when the guy poured what looked like a litre of MSG all over his squid. The chicken was nice.

I wanted to watch the Polynesian show so we headed in that direction. The arena was great. It was a beach set up with buckets and spades set out for the kids to play and a couple of members of staff on hand to help wash the sand off them. The girls enjoyed the sand play but the show was disappointing.

The rain was back with avengance so we headed home.
